ZTE Corp. and ChinaTel Group Inc. (CHTL) said they have formed a partnership to enhance ChinaTel’s ongoing deployment of a WiMAX network in Peru.
The partnership calls for ChinaTel to upgrade the first base station equipment ZTE is manufacturing for ChinaTel’s subsidiary Perusat with ZTE’s 4T8R beam forming technology. ChinaTel said it has recently provided the down payment for the order and that ZTE expects to begin delivering the equipment by May. The network is expected to commercially launch in eight markets this August with nationwide deployment completed by 2017.
The contract was originally announced late last year with a value of $48 million. ChinaTel is also in the process of rolling out WiMAX services across portions of China using 3.5 GHz spectrum holdings.
