@ CTIA: Ericsson supports innovation through Connections program

ORLANDO, Fla.—Ericsson (ERIC) is launching a wireless innovation program designed to connect innovators, application developers, entrepreneurs, device manufacturers, vertical service providers an operators to evolve the network society, the company said.
Using its facilities in Plano, Texas, Ericsson said Ericsson Connections will give members access to the companies testing lab facilities, as well as expertise from Ericsson and its partners, to find new ways to generate revenue and improve lives through information and communications technologies. The best ideas could earn a position in key customer innovations centers sponsored by Ericsson.
“A significant growth area for the ICT (information and communications technology) industry is based around connecting devices and machines in a networked society,” said Bob Gessel, Head of Technology Strategy Development for Ericsson North America. “Ericsson’s role will be to work with developers in consumer, enterprise and vertical industries to help them reach new levels of interactivity and performance. It is essential that these new connections work properly and dependably.”
The program is similar to innovation centers at AT&T Mobility and Verizon Wireless, as well as ones by Alcatel-Lucent and Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., among others.
The first focus of Connectiosn will center on platforms, technologies and services to connect devices, next-generation TV as well as vertical market segments in the medical, transport and utility fields.
