Regional wireless operator C Spire Wireless said it would spend an additional $10 million on top of the $90 million announced last month to expand mobile broadband services to 61 cities and 65 counties across its coverage areas in portions of Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee.
C Spire, which changed its name from Cellular South last month, recently said it plans to spend $90 million to upgrade cell sites and enhance backhaul capacity to its network ahead of plans to introduce LTE services. The carrier is also looking to bolster network capacity ahead of its planned launch of Apple’s latest iPhone 4S device, which it announced last week it would be the first regional carrier to offer.
C Spire noted that it has the highest smartphone penetration rate in the domestic market.
