Verizon Wireless’ LTE network looks to have taken a hit with the carrier acknowledging “issues” with its high-speed data network. The issues, which have been streaming across the Web since this afternoon, seem to be only impacting the carrier’s LTE operations and not anything on its CDMA network.
“We’re working to resolve some 4GLTE issues ASAP, some customers report operating on 3G or no data. 3G data; calls/texts unaffected,” the carrier noted through its VZWSupport Twitter feed.
(That feed also shows a large number of people that have no interest in the carrier’s 3G data services. My, how times have changed.)
Verizon Wireless suffered a similar outage earlier this year ahead of the launch of its Samsung Droid Charge device, which resulted in that device being delayed for several weeks.
The take down comes a year and two days after the carrier officially launched the network, which it has managed to expand to about 190 million potential customers. The carrier said it expects the network to reach 200 million pops by the end of the year, which is ahead of its 185 million pops from previous guidance.
Update: Verizon Wireless’ LTE network appears to be back online, with Internet reports indicating signals are strong in previously dark areas.
