TEL AVIV, Israel—Ceragon Networks Ltd. has added a fixed wireless SONET/SDH system with a built-in add-drop-multiplexer for cellular metropolitan infrastructure networks to its FibeAir product family.
According to Ceragon, SONET/SDH networking equipment can offer carriers advantages as cellular subscriber numbers increase and next-generation services are introduced. And Ceragon’s system includes a built-in, rather than external, ADM component, which enables faster and more efficient network migration.
“Cellular traffic will surge over the next five years, which will drive considerable capacity requirements in communication networks,” said Maarten Meijer, vice president of marketing for Iparix Communicaitons, a Ceragon customer. “Ceragon’s FibeAir systems provided us with an immediate, cost-effective alternative to fiber lines, so we could offer our customers high-speed services at attractive rates.”
Ceragon further announced it has expanded the FibeAir product family by adding 7 and 8 GHz high-capacity wireless infrastructure systems that incorporate built-in errorless hitless switches, offering a more expansive range.
These announcements follow Ceragon’s announcement last week that Svenska UMTS Nat AB, a 3G infrastructure joint venture between Telia Mobile and Tele2, has chosen Ceragon to supply its wireless SDH systems for nationwide 3G network deployment.
Ceragon will demonstrate its new solution at CTIA’s Wireless 2002 show next week.
