Mobility, Broadband and Cloud – three pillars of transformation
Ericsson’s CEO Hans Vestberg provides overview of Ericsson’s vision of ICT transformation to meet tomorrow’s needs.
Vestberg highlighted the following areas of focus:
- Mobile Infrastructure – #1 in the world
- Services – Over 10 years, over 40% of revenue from “people business”. Â Running 1 billion mobile subscribers have been outsourced to Ericsson. Over 60,000 employees at Ericsson work in services
- OSS/BSS – #1 in the world
- TV Media – #1 in the world
- IP – not number one, but very important in ICT transformation
Ericsson has left the phone and modem businesses; however, they are investing over $ 5 billion annually in R&D.
What is happening in the industry?
- 7.2 billion mobile subscriptions over the past 25 years
- 3 billion mobile broadband subscribers over past 5 years. Â Over the next 5 years, pace of change and innovation will accelerate, resulting in over 9 billion subscribers by 2019.
- Majority of people subscribing to mobile broadband today are starting with smart devices.
- Existing networks were built for voice over the past 25 years. In 2010, voice was equal to data. Over the next 5 years, voice will be “noise”.
- Over the next 5-10 years, we will have some 50 billion connections – people, places, devices.
