Are IoT standards keeping up with IoT innovation? IEEE IoT standards body is hard at work to deliver IoT P2413 interoperability standards framework by 2017
Watch IoT Innovation interview with Oleg Logvinov – Chair of the IEEE P2413 working group, IEEE Internet Initiative, joining RCR Wireless News CEO and Editorial Director Jeff Mucci to discuss the IoT standards process. Logvinov is also director, special assignments, for STMicroelectronics’ Industrial and Power Conversion Division.
IoT industry news:
- Verizon opened its network to IoT connected devices using a standard called Cat-1 LTE that limits upload speeds to 10 Mbps, lowers the modem costs, and extends battery life.
- Orange appears to be leading the IoT charge in Europe with several recent announcements including: EricssonIoT LTE GSM trial focused on reducing IoT complexity and
cost of deploying, while extending battery life; Orange will be deploying a low power long range LoRa network in 17 French urban areas and gradually rolled out nationally; Expanding Datavenue, their IoT platform, to include additional Big Data and Internet of Things (IoT) services aimed at enterprise IoT market; Orange released an IoT tool kit for connected object designers to prototype LoRa technology-based services. - Research and Markets released two reports claiming that global IOT energy market will grow from $7b to $22b by 2020 and that IoT healthcare market will be worth $163.24 billion by 2020.
- Using Kickstarter crowdfunding to reach academia, developer and maker communities, Imagination Technologies launched a Dev Kit For IoT called Creator Ci40, claiming that it is “The ultimateIoT-in-a-box dev
kit”. As of December 2, they have 228 backers and have raised $27,000 of $30,000 target. Creator Ci40 includes all the hardware, software and cloud infrastructure needed to quickly build a wireless IoT system.
Mucci closed the show with an interview Oleg Logvinov, chair of the IEEE P2413 working group, IEEE Internet Initiative. He is also director, special assignments, for STMicroelectronics’ Industrial and Power Conversion Division.
