Voice over LTE (VoLTE) offers a more efficient use of existing network resources, lower operational costs and, in the long run, an improved customer experience. However the transition from a traditional circuit-switched voice network to one that requires new applications at the device level, new interfaces with existing RAN installations and new functionality at the mobile core has been a bumpy, often delayed process.
