Smartphones have freed us up to do almost anything from anywhere — except recharge the phone. Even if you can charge wirelessly you often need to place your phone on a custom wireless charger. But now that may be changing. Two of the different standards groups for wireless charging, the Power Matters Alliance (PMA) and the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP), have joined forces. According to Samsung, this means that soon “integrated restaurants, airports, public spaces, vehicles and living spaces of all descriptions will finally free consumers from the burden of having to remember to carry their power cords.” Samsung said this week that 2015 will be landmark year for wireless charging, hinting that its upcoming Galaxy phones will include new charging technology.
Speaking of new technology, Alcatel-Lucent and Freescale are teaming up in an effort to bring together wireless and wireline communications. The two companies want to create a new access device that will be able to support both wireline and 5G wireless processing in a single architecture. The companies plan to unveil a proof of concept by early 2017.
And finally our featured employer today is AT&T. The company is hiring a mobility engineer to work in Virginia, a principal technical arhitect to wok in Maryland, a senior manager of e-commerce to work in Atlanta and a senior inventive scientiest to work in New Jersey.
