The Japanese handset industry remains an enigma shrouded in mystery for most of the world outside of Japan, but at this year’s CommunicAsia in Singapore, RCR Unplugged managed to spend some time at the Japanese firm’s booth, pulling its handsets apart – literally.
NTT Docomo’s separable phone is an offering which at first glance just looks like a cumbersome and hulking slider you wouldn’t really want to shlep around, but with one easy click, the display detaches itself and the user is left with two parts, one with the earpiece and microphone still attached for talking, the other, a touchscreen display to continue browsing and surfing on while you talk.
The phone can also be attached to a projector base, making into a sort of digital transformer. Also, with a 12.2-megapixel camera, happy snappy users won’t have much to complain about.
Unfortunately, since the handset is W-CDMA and GSM only, it probably won’t be hitting US shores any time soon. But no reason you can’t take a hands on look, eh? After all, this really is a phone which sets itself apart.
