STS TO SUPPLY TECHNOLOGY TO CHI NESE GOVERNMENT

SUNNYVALE, Calif.-A subsidiary of California Microwave Inc. recently won a $2.2 million contract to provide satellite communications technology to China’s Ministry of Post and Telecommunications.

The subsidiary, Satellite Transmission Systems Inc., will supply a new satellite earth station, as well as upgrade an older one, according to California Microwave.

Under terms of the contract, STS will supply the Chinese government with microwave frequency conversion equipment, digital modems and computerized graphic monitor and control systems, noted the company.

New Hong Kong will get array of mobile services

HAINAN ISLAND, China-Columbia Communications Corp. has been selected to build and operate the telecommunications infrastructure for New Hong Kong, the city under construction on the island.

Columbia Communications is an international satellite and telecommunications company. New Hong Kong is being developed by the Washington Investment Group USA Inc. Services will include telephony, digital wireless, interactive video and satellite services.

Clifford Laughton, chief executive officer of Columbia, said Washington Investment Group’s request was very straightforward, telling Columbia “to create the most advanced telecommunications system in the world for this city.”
