GTE MOBILNET PARTNERS IN EIGHTH JAPANESE DEAL

ATLANTA-GTE Mobilnet has partnered with Digital Tu-Ka Hokuriku Co. Ltd. of Japan, a telecommunications company formed by Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. and Japan Telecom Co. Ltd., said GTE.

The new company, of which GTE will own a 4.5 percent stake, plans to operate a 1.5 GHz digital cellular system beginning in June 1997 in Kanazawa City and other major cities in the Hokuriku area. Expansion to surrounding areas will follow, GTE added.

GTE said its venture with Tu-Ka Hokuriku is its eighth cellular partnership in Japan. All eight companies plan to provide cellular coverage to a combined population of nearly 105 million people.
