Leon Hensen has been named senior vice president and general manager of Palmer Wireless Inc. of Fort Myers, Fla. Hensen will be responsible for the overall operation of the company. Hensen joined Palmer Communications Inc., the former parent company of Palmer Wireless, in 1987. Hensen also has worked for Motorola Inc. and Rogers Radio Communications Services Inc. in Chicago and has done consulting for BellSouth Corp. and McCaw Cellular Communications Inc.

Geotek Communications Inc. has appointed Jan Zwaik vice president of the company’s northeast area to handle Geotek’s sales, distribution and customer operations in the Boston and New York metropolitan markets. Zwaik recently was chief operating officer of Margia Communications Corp./Novocomm Inc., an international telecommunications company. Also, he formerly was vice president of operations and finance for Lin Broadcasting Corp.

Wayne Leuck has joined U.S. AirWaves Inc. as director of engineering. Leuck will supervise the design of AirWaves’ personal communications services network, provide technical support and manage equipment contracts and network construction. Leuck previously was director of wireless systems engineering for U S West NewVector Group Inc. and was radio engineer and system operator for GTE Mobilnet Inc.

Mark Jules has been promoted to vice president of technical operations for MetroCel Cellular Telephone Co. in Dallas. Jules previously was director of network engineering for MetroCel and worked for Cellular One in New York for nine years. In his new post, Jules will manage MetroCel’s system growth, planning and design, performance, maintenance and new products.

Jeffery Fuller has been appointed president and chief operating officer for Transcrypt International. Fuller previously served as vice president of North American sales and marketing for E.F. Johnson Co. and has worked for Motorola Inc., General Electric and ICOM America. Fuller also will oversee the radio strategic business unit of Transcrypt. The company produces security, mobile data and land mobile radio products.

William J. West, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Dial Page Inc., has joined the board of directors of ReadyCom Inc., the Chapel Hill, N.C.-based creator of ReadyTalk mobile voice messaging system.

Ryan Hodgson has joined Lincoln, Neb.-based Centurion International Inc. as account manager for key antenna and battery products. He will be the contact person for engineering, design, sales, production and customer service in those areas. Hodgson previously worked 10 years for Midland International as special markets sales manager.

Centurian also announced it promoted Hank Smith to quality assurance manager for Centurion’s international battery manufacturing operation. In his new capacity, Smith will be responsible for enginering and manufacturing processes for Centurion’s communications equipment batteries.

Bell Atlantic Corp. has selected Thomas A. Bartlett to fill the spot of president and chief executive officer of Bell Atlantic International Wireless. The position was vacated recently by Benjamin L. Scott, who left to become president and chief executive officer of PCS PrimeCo L.P., a personal communications services license holder. Bartlett formerly was president of the New England and Upstate New York region for Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile. He now will be responsible for the corporation’s global wireless interests in North American, Latin American and European markets.

Michael Moore has been named president of Inside Track, a Weatherford, Texas-based firm that recruits personnel for communications technology firms, particularly in engineering, finance and marketing fields.

Moore was previously with Jim Young & Associates and Allbritton Communications, and helped launch a 24-hour cable news service in the Washington, D.C., region.

Houston-based Kenwood Systems Group has selected Cordell Brown as sales manager. His responsibilities will include sales, marketing and sales force management, with a focus on the company’s customized voice and data systems. Brown previously was corporate direct account executive for Pittencrief Communication Inc.

Two new appointments were made at the Orlando-based Phoenix Wireless Group Inc. Brian Andrew has joined the company as vice president of technical operations; he previously was senior manager of product delivery for the wireless division of Northern Telecom Ltd.

Dave Williams is the company’s new system engineer; he previously served as manager of system engineering at SmartLink Inc.

Stephen Burke has been appointed vice president of business planning and control for Sony’s Wireless Telecommunications Co., based in San Diego.

He will oversee business planning, production planning and manufacturing operations for Sony’s analog and digital cellular phone and wireless messaging products. Burke formerly headed up strategic planning and capital investment of Sony Electronics Inc.’s North American engineering and manufacturing operations. Sony’s Wireless Telecommunications Co. is a full-line supplier of wireless solutions for analog, digital and paging products.
