Editor’s Note: The companies listed below are the current holders of A- and B-block licenses for broadband personal communications services in the United States. None of the companies-with the exception of Sprint Spectrum-is yet offering PCS service to the public. Therefore, RCR is ranking them by the total population base for the major trading areas they have won at auction.
There are 20 companies listed. Eighteen companies won licenses at auction. Three companies were previously granted pioneer’s preference licenses, including Cox Communications Inc., which also won a license for the Omaha, Neb., MTA at auction.
Sprint Telecommunications Venture and PhillieCo L.P. have the same management but slightly different ownership structures and are listed separately.
Poka Lambro Telephone Cooperative Inc. reportedly is about to sell its licenses.
The RCR Top 20 PCS Operators feature is the property of RCR Publications Inc. and should not be construed as an endorsement for the companies listed. Information concerning carrier ranking cannot be reprinted without written permission from RCR.-Jerry Blake, Research Editor
