Ameritech Corp. announced it has formed a consortium with Singapore Telecom and Tele Danmark to pursue a partnership with Belgacom S.A., the national telecommunications operator in Belgium. The Belgian government this summer selected Ameritech as a final bidder for the consolidation of Belgacom. The consortium is competing to purchase a 49.9 percent stake in Belgacom. A partner should be selected by the end of the year.

TeleZone Corp. announced it has signed memorandums of understanding with Northern Telecom Ltd. and AT&T Canada to build Canada’s premier personal communications services network. The agreements are contingent upon TeleZone successfully obtaining one of the 30 MHz 1.9 GHz PCS licenses from Industry Canada. Nortel and AT&T Canada plan to build TeleZone’s national wireless network using Code Division Multiple Access technology for a 1996 national network deployment.

Canadian-based Clearnet Communications Inc. said its wholly owned enhanced specialized mobile radio operating subsidiary, Clearnet Inc., completed all definitive documentation for about a $70 million senior debt facility with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. The company also announced it has filed an amended preliminary prospectus with the Ontario Securities Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission for an offering of units in the United States to raise proceeds of $150 million. The units will consist of senior discount notes due 2005 and warrants to purchase class A non-voting shares. Clearnet said the credit facility is designed to aid Clearnet Inc.’s build out of ESMR in the Ontario-Quebec coverage region until a bond issue is completed.

P-Com Inc. said under an existing contract it has received purchase orders from Orange Personal Communications Services Ltd. of the United Kingdom to supply 23 GHz and 38 GHz digital millimeter wave radio systems. Orange, operated by Hutchison Telecom Ltd., is the United Kingdom’s national digital wireless telephone network. The order for the radio systems is part of Orange’s nationwide network.

Motorola Inc. said its European Cellular Infrastructure Division was awarded a contract to provide voice mail services to Deutsche Telekom MobiNet GmbH, operator of the D1 Global System for Mobile communications cellular network in Germany. Developed in conjunction with Comverse Technology Inc., the voice mail service enables mobile subscribers to be notified of any messages via a short message service center or a paging service.

Sudatel, a telecommunications service provider in Sudan, has awarded California Microwave Inc. a contract for a domestic satellite communications network, California Microwave announced. The network will provide voice and data communications in 37 cities and villages throughout the country. California Microwave said its Satellite Transmission Systems subsidiary will supply its Flex-Net integrated digital satellite network, which will consist of a hub station at Khartoum and a demand-assigned-multiple-access service overlay providing interconnectivity between all other remote stations in the network.
