FLEX WILL BE DEPLOYED TO UNLOCK VEHICLE DOORS FROM REMOTE LOCATIONS

FORT WORTH, Texas-Motorola Inc.’s Advanced Messaging Systems Division announced it will supply its ReFLEX two-way paging technology and global positioning system receiver to the AutoLink System, an automotive safety, security and communications system offered by Prince.

Motorola said the technology will enable the system to provide features such as automatic emergency road assistance and remote vehicle unlocking. The emergency road assistance feature notifies an emergency response team when a vehicle’s airbag is deployed, and the driver can push a button to summon police, medical or roadside assistance, Motorola said. The remote unlocking feature will allow motorists to unlock the door of the automobile by calling the AutoLink System’s toll-free number. The command will be paged to the vehicle automatically unlocking the doors. Motorola said the AutoLink System will be available as a factory-installed option in 1998.
