When it comes to the bottom line, AT&T Corp. and British Telecommunications plc dominate the top two positions for 1995, with equipment manufacturers NEC Corp. and Motorola Inc. right behind them.
According to Motorola’s year-end report, downward pressure on prices has had a negative impact on net income. But new technologies like personal communications services, newly available radio frequencies and additional service providers add up to expectations of future growth in this key budget line item.
Bell Atlantic Corp., in at number five, has attributed much of its income growth to its participation in Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile. The joint venture in wireless communications gained one million subscribers in 1995.
