A coalition of local and regional paging companies and an equipment manufacturer plan to file an emergency petition with the Federal Communications Commission this week requesting that the paging application freeze be lifted.
The commission announced Feb. 9 it will not accept new paging applications until it adopts geographic licensing and auction rules for the paging industry. Related story on Page 5.
Millicom alleges monopoly activity
Millicom International Cellular S.A., Millicom Costa Rica S.A. and Communications Celulares S.A. have filed a lawsuit charging monopolistic cellular practices in Costa Rica.
Millicom International said the lawsuit names as defendants the Republic of Costa Rica, Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad and Radiografica Costarricense S.A. The companies say the defendants wrongfully monopolized the Costa Rican cellular market.
