Motorola Inc.’s Advanced Messaging Group announced that PacLink has become the first to launch Motorola’s FLEX paging protocol and distribute FLEX protocol-based pagers in Thailand. PacLink is investing more than $1 million in the FLEX protocol-capable infrastructure system and plans to launch the latest models of the alphanumeric and numeric FLEX protocol pagers in the third quarter.

California Microwave Inc. announced it has won a $5 million contract from the Jamaica Public Service Co. to supply digital microwave radios for the new JPS communications system that will interconnect JPS facilities throughout the island. The system is expected to be fully installed and operational in early 1997.

London-based CIT Research Ltd. reported that Nokia Corp. tops this year’s league table of European mobile equipment suppliers. With $2.2 billion in European sales of mobile infrastructure and handsets, Nokia is just ahead of its nearest rival, Motorola Inc. L.M. Ericsson, last year’s leader, dropped into third place with mobile equipment sales of $1.6 billion. Motorola’s European sales totaled $2.1 billion. The figures come from the study Mobile Communications in Europe, produced annually by CIT Research.

Centigram Communication Corp. announced that Jing-Jiu Railway, the largest railway in China, has purchased Centigram’s Series 6 communications server to expand its existing suite of services and communications capabilities. Centigram said its system will provide voice messaging, fax capabilities, audio text services and message notification.

AccessLine Technologies Inc. announced a contract to deliver AccessLine One Number Service throughout South Korea. AccessLine said the service will be delivered through a Korean joint venture company called Hyosung One Number Co. Ltd. with partners including Hyosung, AccessLine and several local and international communications carriers and suppliers. The service will be first deployed in Seoul in the third quarter, and later in Pusan, Kwangju, Beagu, Deajon and Che-ju.

Socket Communications Inc. announced that London Pager, a service provider for Hutchison Telecom’s United Kingdom paging network, will offer advanced services for Socket’s PageCard Wireless Messaging System. The PageCard is a PC card pager with a liquid crystal display, allowing it to be used both as a data pager for delivering wireless messages to a mobile computer and as a stand-alone alphanumeric pager.

MobileWare Corp. has debuted its first international version of its wireless data software at the CDMA World Congress in Singapore. With the introduction of MobileWare v3.5, the company said it is positioned to support all current and future global cellular standards, including Global System for Mobile communications and the Microsoft Windows international versions.
