MONTVALE, N.J.-Geotek Communications Inc. said the Korean Ministry of Information and Communications has awarded Anam Telecom Co. Ltd. a license to operate a nationwide trunked radio system in Korea.
Anam Telecom is a consortium comprised of Geotek and Anam Industrial Company Ltd.-which together hold a 47 percent interest-and 63 Korean companies.
Geotek said its digital Frequency Hopping Multiple Access system was the deciding factor in the ministry’s choice of the consortium. The system will be deployed throughout Korea beginning in 1997.
Geotek said the Korean FHMA network will provide an integrated suite of services similar to those offered by Geotek in the United States. Subscribers will have access to telephony, dispatch, mobile data and a host of business software solutions, including automatic vehicle location and credit authorization.
