IRVINE, Calif.-Cox California PCS Inc. said it will purchase about $500 million in personal communications services network equipment and services from Lucent Technologies.
The company said it will employ digital Code Division Multiple Access technology and will integrate existing cable infrastructure into its PCS network.
“Today’s announcement with Lucent Technologies is a key step for Cox California PCS as we gear up to launch this revolutionary new communications service for consumers and businesses in the southwestern United States,” said Bruce Crair, the company’s vice president and general manager.
Cox won a pioneer’s preference PCS license for southern California and Nevada that includes Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego and Las Vegas. The company is affiliated with Sprint Spectrum L.P. which also includes Sprint Corp., Tele-Communications Inc. and Comcast Corp.
