COMPANY CREATED TO MANAGE PCS MARKETS IN NORTH

MINNEAPOLIS-A partnership of Independent Telephone Companies and Minnesota Equal Access Network Services has acquired five personal communications services markets throughout northern Minnesota and North Dakota.

The markets are Fargo and Grand Forks, N.D., and Fergus Falls, Brainerd and Wilmar/Marshall, Minn., along with surrounding counties.

WirelessNorth, a company created to manage the PCS markets, will assume responsibility for network design, wireless system construction and general operations.

In addition to the five marketing areas, WirelessNorth said it plans to enter the upcoming 10-megahertz auction for additional PCS markets that include Duluth, St. Cloud, Bemidji, Worthington, Mankato and Rochester, Minn. The combined footprint will complete a statewide network of PCS coverage throughout Minnesota.

WirelessNorth said it has yet to determine what technology it will use.
