LEXINGTON, Mass.-Wildfire Communications Inc. said Robert G. Mechaley Jr. has been named president and chief executive officer of the company.
Mechaley, 45, most recently was a senior vice president with AT&T Wireless Services Inc. While at McCaw Cellular Communications Inc., Mechaley spearheaded development of a cellular-based data network for UPS’ point-of-delivery tracking system that handles hundreds of thousands of packages per day. Mechaley went on to drive creation of a standard for wireless data access called Cellular Digital Packet Data service.
Most recently, Mechaley was involved in the launch preparations for personal communications services licenses bought by AT&T in recent spectrum auctions, as well as developing AT&T’s two-way wireless messaging system.
