Corsair Communications Inc. appointed Dr. Donald R. Oestreicher vice president of engineering. Oestreicher will direct Corsair’s efforts in product engineering, research and development. Oestreicher’s background includes engineering management with Dow Jones & Co., Evans & Sutherland Computer Corp., Valid Logic Systems and Xerox Corp. He has led teams in developing distributed systems, software applications and hardware.
Jim Wurm was appointed director of marketing by Airadigm Communications. Wurm will be responsible for developing the company’s market, communications and product strategies, as well as overseeing advertising, research and packaging. Wurm previously served as product director/product manager for Ameritech Cellular Services.
DFW Communications Inc., the authorized Motorola dealer for the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex, has named Thomas R. Nutt sales manager for its four land mobile radio facilities. He will be responsible for managing DFW Communications’ expanding sales force, as well as working with management to develop and expand the company’s line of products and services. Nutt formerly was an account executive with the Motorola dealer distribution channel.
Melissa Schrier was named corporate office sales manager by Cellular City, an authorized agent for the GTE Mobilnet. Prior to joining Cellular City, Schrier was a manager at Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
Citizens Telecom, a telecommunications company providing local, long distance, cellular, paging and network sales, appointed Clayton T. Oswald vice president of direct sales for the western region. His responsibilities will include managing a 70-person sales force in Washington, Utah, Oregon, California, Idaho and Arizona. Oswald formerly was vice president of marketing at ICS Communications, a private cable television provider.
Barry Taylor was appointed sales manager for Financial Information Network Services by International Satellite Communications Corp., a Chicago-based provider of communications services and applied technology. Taylor, previously of International Data Media, LIFFE and Dow Jones/Telerate, will help InterSat unveil innovative multimedia-based services for the futures industry.
Eon Corp., a digital wireless communications company, announced it appointed two of its senior management team members to serve as officers of the company.
Ted D. Tarr, formerly Eon’s senior vice president of marketing and sales operations, was appointed senior vice president and chief operating officer. He will be responsible for the daily operations of the company. Prior to his present position, he was senior vice president and general manager of BDM Federal, a major systems contractor for the federal government.
Tom MacLeod was appointed vice president of business development. He is responsible for strategic alliances as well as overseeing Eon’s planned network deployment.
Reltec Corp., formerly Reliance Comm/Tec., has appointed Diana Starheim contracts manager; Daniel E. Stopar senior financial reporting analyst; and John P. Ziemak director of compensation and benefits.
Starheim comes to Reltec from Alltel Corp. where she was staff manager of contracts. Her new responsibilities will include administering all Reltec domestic and international contracts, as well as real estate leasing.
Stopar was most recently employed by Arthur Andersen L.L.P. He will be responsible for preparation of external financial reports, implementing current accounting and reporting standards and assisting with general finance and audit projects.
Ziemak, formerly of Ernst & Young, will be responsible for managing the company’s compensation and benefits.
Rogers Corp. has named Robert A. Quintus special projects manager for the company’s Microwave and Circuit Materials Division. Prior to joining Rogers Corp., Quintus was president of Taconic Corp. Quintus will assist the company with its new commercial microwave laminate products.
AirMedia, a developer of wireless communications software solutions for paging, broadband and narrowband personal communications systems and digital cellular networks, added several new staff members following the launch of its wireless cyberspace network, AirMedia Live.
In the newly created position of vice president of subscriber marketing, John E. Meier will be responsible for building, growing and retaining the subscriber base for the AirMedia Live Internet Broadcast Network. He was formerly a senior vice president with CompuServe.
The new director of sales is Donald Buffamanti. He is responsible for product and technology licensing to original equipment manufacturers, major PC vendors and set-top box and other embedded device manufacturers. Buffamanti comes to AirMedia from Cardinal Technologies where he was the country manager for Canada.
Thomas Connerty was named director of programming. Formerly the vice president of broadcast for the Home Shopping Network, Connerty is responsible for managing scheduling and content for AirMedia Live.
Jeff King, the new director of software engineering, is responsible for AirMedia Live software development, quality assurance, technical support and technology research. He has 15 years of management experience in the field.
The new marketing communications manager is Sandra L. Sick. She manages the marketing and communications activities related to AirMedia Live. Prior to joining AirMedia, Sick managed worldwide marketing for Comverse Information Systems, a digital voice recording manufacturer.
As manager of commerce, John Hart will cultivate business relationships with retail vendors who maintain a Web page on the Internet. Previously, Hart was founder, editor and publisher of TravelGram, the daily Internet travel newsletter.
In addition, Lou Weiss was promoted to vice president of business development. His new responsibilities include content acquisition, carrier relationships, ISP/on-line service partnerships, business development and Network Operations Center development for the AirMedia Division.
GTE Telecommunication Services, a Tampa, Fla.-based unit of GTE Corp., has named Rose Llauget area sales director.
Llauget has been a GTE employee for 25 years, and she most recently was national manager for GTE customer, LDDS WorldCom. She now will be responsible for overseeing GTE’s sales activities in the United States and Canada.
Llauget holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of South Florida.
Scot Nelson recently was hired as general manager of Western Communications, Boise, Idaho. He replaces Robert Horting who retired. Nelson has a background in sales management and industrial systems design. He worked at Motorola Inc. for 10 years as a sales and training facilitator. Western Communications originally was part of the Avionics shop of Western Aircraft.
Brite Voice Systems appointed Paul Elmquist vice president. He previously was director of the enhanced voice services group for MCI Corp. Brite is a provider of enhanced telecommunications products. The company said Elmquist will serve Brite’s electronic publishing division investigating and implementing new revenue ideas for integrating voice processing with other enhanced technologies.
Advanced TechCom Inc. appointed Gerardo Gonzalez managing director of ATI Mexico. He brings 25 years experience in telecommunications design, marketing and service to Mexico. ATI designs, manufactures and markets a range of high-technology, digital microwave and millimeter wave radios for point-to-point transmission of data and voice. The company targets all wireless markets including cellular and personal communications services.
Andrew M. Sills was appointed senior vice president and chief information officer of US One Communications Corp. The company said Sills will oversee all information systems and support services to ensure that information technology is properly used in the company. He has more than 25 years of experience in the tele
communications industry. Sills was vice president of information services at Alltel Corp. and assistant vice president of systems development for United Telecommunications/Sprint.
CNET Inc. added two new members to its customer service team. The company said Willie C. Dixon and Cindy Shook were named technical support representatives. The two are responsible fore technical support for CNET’s products and customers. They will handle installations and ongoing support and report to John Reynolds, vice president of sales and service. CNET is a provider of integrated software tools for the wireless communications industry.
Joseph Pennington has been named director of technical services at Pacific 17. He will be responsible for the Independent Site Inspection Program and the Pac 17 Systems Integration teams and Maintenance teams. The Maintenance team will provide equipment maintenance and warranty service support for Code Division Multiple Access and Global System for Mobile communications equipment vendors for personal communications services licensees.
Cellular One’s Mid-Atlantic East Region appointed Patricia Gift market manager. Gift has been with the company in various sales and management positions for the last 10 years. In her new position, she will have responsibility for sales, installation operations and major accounts in Williamsport and the Pennsylvania rural service ares of Bloomsburg, Lewisburg, Sunbury and Selinsgrove. In her last position, Gift was regional manager of consumer sales for the Pennsylvania region.
