KANSAS CITY, Mo.-Sprint PCS opened its Technology and Network Management Center in Lenexa, Kan. The center is home to 120 Sprint PCS employees and will serve as the nerve center for Sprint PCS’ personal communications services network.
“We believe our Technology and Network Management Center has no equal anywhere in the industry,” said Andrew Sukawaty, Sprint PCS’ chief executive officer. “This facility will enable us to perform some extremely critical functions allowing us to provide consumers and businesses with the next generation of wireless communications.”
Network monitoring is one function that will be performed at the facility. Thousands of cell sites are monitored for such problems as inappropriate temperature and burned-out aircraft warning lights. Equipment testing also is performed at the facility.
A fully functional backup center is located nearby and immediately available in the event of a catastrophic problem at the new facility, the company said.
Sprint PCS is a joint operation between Sprint Corp., Tele-Communications Inc., Cox Communications Inc. and Comcast Corp.
