LAS VEGAS-Nextel Communications Inc. launched its enhanced digital wireless communications service in Las Vegas. The system uses the PowerFone handset, which features an instant conferencing feature for up to 256 pre-programmed groups of up to 100 people.
Nextel is extending a rate of 14 cents per minute to customers on its digital networks throughout southern Nevada and Southern California. No roaming or long-distance charges will be assessed for calls within Nextel’s footprint.
“This market is ripe for an all-in-one service like ours,” said Bob Mearns, Nextel’s general manager for Las Vegas. “The ability for our business customers in segments like hospitality, convention planning and construction to combine multiple communications tools in one device improves the whole support system that makes this city work.”
