U.S. TRADE AGENCY GIVES GRANT TO JORDAN’S PLANNING MINISTRY

CAIRO, Egypt-The U.S. Trade and Development Agency awarded a $250,000 grant to Jordan’s Ministry of Planning to conduct a feasibility study for a $7 million spectrum management tele-communications system. The export potential for American equipment is estimated at $6 million.

The agency said it expects the Jordanian Ministry to select an American company to perform the study within two months.

The study will review existing legal and regulatory statutes affecting the tele-communications sector.

In addition, it will determine hardware, software and database requirements for installing the system, as well as developing an implementation plan and financial documents.

“With the liberalization of the Jordanian telecommunications sector and new initiatives to increase the availability and reliability of telecommunications throughout the country, this grant will help American manufacturers make significant inroads in this exciting new market,” said Trade and Development Agency Director J. Joseph Grandmaison.

“For additional telecommunications operators to make headway in Jordan, an effective spectrum monitoring system is necessary. This grant should go a long way toward helping that project move forward,” Grandmaison continued.

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency is an independent federal agency that helps American companies pursue business opportunities overseas.
