SAN DIEGO ROAMS FREE FOR HALF YEAR

PLEASANTON, Calif.-Pacific Bell Mobile Services will let its San Diego subscribers roam free of charge for the next six months in New York City, Honolulu, Portland, Ore., Salt Lake City, Knoxville, Tenn., Charlotte and Raleigh, N.C.

Those are all cities where a personal communications services operator has launched a Global System for Mobile communications network. The operators have signed agreements and are promoting their roaming capability through the Pacific Bell Mobile special offer. Carriers participating include Pacific Bell, BellSouth Mobility DCS, Omnipoint Corp. and Western Wireless Inc.

Pacific Bell launched service in San Diego on Nov. 1. The company is expanding that network and is offering San Diego customers free roaming in Orange County and Las Vegas as well for the next six months.

“This is an early holiday gift to our San Diego customers,” said Terrence Valeski, vice president of marketing and business development for Pacific Bell Mobile.
