MOUNTAIN LAKES, N.J.-Omnipoint Communications Inc. received the first shipment of Subscriber Identity Module cards from Gemplus Card International Corp., said the U.S. subsidiary of Gemplus SCA of Gemenos, France.
The shipment is part of a five-year contract that calls for Gemplus to deliver its second-generation SIM card, named GemXplore, to Omnipoint. GemXplore complies with the Phase II release of the Global System for Mobile communications standard, Omnipoint said.
Mac McKinnon, Gemplus’ director of telecommunications sales, said, “Gemplus is excited about our contract-it’s this type of commitment that allows us to help develop enhanced SIM card applications for feature-rich wireless products.”
