MOTOROLA PICKS UP CONTRACT IN YEMEN

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.-Motorola Inc.’s International Cellular Infrastructure Group said it won a contract to supply a Code Division Multiple Access wireless local loop network to Yemen’s Public Telecommunications Corp.

The system will be deployed in three phases, with the first phase scheduled to be operational by the end of the first quarter 1997.

Motorola will deliver CDMA fixed wireless terminals and its SC 2400 base station, which will operate in the 800 MHz frequency band, the manufacturer said.

“This contract marks Motorola’s first CDMA WiLL deployment in the Middle East,” said Pertti Johansson, senior vice president and general manager of Motorola’s International Cellular Infrastructure Group.

“The CDMA WiLL system will meet the growing needs of the private sector and business investors in the free zone are in Aden,” Johansson continued.
