MOTOROLA WINS CONTRACTS IN FUJI

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.-Motorola Inc.’s Asia Pacific Cellular Infrastructure Group signed three agreements with the Fujian Posts and Telecommunications Administration to expand its analog and digital mobile telephone systems in China’s Fujian province. Motorola values the contracts at $108 million.

Motorola will provide digital base stations including the M-Cell and M-Cell micro series to expand Fujian PTA’s Global System for Mobile communications digital network. The company will provide its new Microc-i-t-e base stations and EMX 2500 switches to expand Fujian PTA’s Total Access Communications System analog network. The overall capacity of the system will increase to 490,000 from 280,000. In addition, Motorola said it will deploy a Digital Cellular System 1800 trial system in Fujian.

“Our cooperation with Motorola in the past has been very successful,” said Zhang Maodong, deputy director of Fujian PTA.

Shipments are scheduled to begin this month, and commercial service is planned for the first quarter of 1997.
