BELL ATLANTIC NYNEX BUYS N.C. RSA 4

BEDMINSTER, N.J.-Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile acquired North Carolina 4 Cellular L.P.’s rural service area 4. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquisition represents 340,000 potential customers and 2,400 square miles, Bell Atlantic Nynex said. The region currently markets cellular service under the Cellular One brand name. Following completion of the acquisition, service will be marketed under the Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile name.

North Carolina 4 is located in the southwest region, bordering South Carolina. It includes Henderson, Cleveland, Lincoln, McDowell, Rutherford and Polk counties.

The acquisition is expected to be completed by the second week of January.
