SAN JOSE, Calif.-The Portable Computer and Communications Association said it will meet Jan. 15 in the Seattle area to form a Handheld PC Steering Committee and working subcommittees.
PCCA President Andrew Seybold said the mission of the new committee will be to stimulate and coordinate industrywide collaboration toward solving critical challenges to the growth of the handheld personal computer and associated industries including file synchronization and network security.
“These issues represent barriers that must be overcome if the huge potential of the handheld PC market is to be realized,” he said. “There is an enormous family of stakeholders, from the vendors and developers who must solve the problems to the business users and early adopters who will establish the feasibility of the technology, and beyond. For once it has been established, the floodgates of consumer acceptance will open.”
