IS AT&T NAME TO BE A FRANCHISE?

AT&T Wireless Services Inc. has now signed its second franchise-like agreement with a wireless player whose holdings can fill in missing links in AT&T’s nationwide footprint.

Indus Inc. holds the C-block license for Milwaukee, Wis. The Indus group is comprised of Milwaukee business people who aren’t necessarily experienced in wireless communications.

AT&T has wireless experience but no holdings in Wisconsin, either at 800 MHz or 1900 MHz. However, AT&T does hold 1900 MHz property in Chicago and Detroit.

The idea, said Indus President Dr. Kailas J. Rao, is to work with AT&T to develop an AT&T Wireless-style system that could eventually use the AT&T brand name. “We will be working toward the brand, developing a compatible look and feel,” Rao said. “It helps us, it helps them.”
