BELLSOUTH MOBILITY ANNOUNCES SIMPLIFIED RATES, NEW SPOKESMAN

BellSouth Mobility Inc. has introduced a simplified per-minute rate plan for digital wireless customers making calls in their home state.

Digital customers in BellSouth Mobility’s north Georgia, middle Georgia and Chattanooga, Tenn., markets will pay their current per-minute rates, while digital customers in other areas will pay a statewide rate of 39 cents per minute.

In addition, the company said nationwide calling will be 59 cents per minute for airtime and 15 cents per minute for long-distance service.

Under the old rate plan, a digital customer from Kentucky who traveled to Ohio and placed a call to California would have paid a $3 roaming charge, $1.09 per minute for airtime and 15 cents per minute for long distance. A two-minute call under the old plan would have totaled $5.48.

Under the new rate plan, the two-minute call would cost $1.48, a savings of $4.

In connection with the new pricing plans, BellSouth Mobility is launching an advertising campaign featuring comedian Dennis Miller, star of “Dennis Miller Live.”

“We wanted to deliver an unforgettable message to our digital customers and Dennis Miller is the perfect vehicle to do that, ” said Odie Donald, president of BellSouth Mobility. “The message is that if you’re not with BellSouth Mobility you’re missing something.”

The campaign consists of three 30-second television spots, three 60-second radio spots, two outdoor billboards and four print advertisements, the company said.

Point of sale materials include life-size Dennis Miller cut-outs at all BellSouth Mobility retail outlets.

BellSouth Mobility’s digital service packages include caller ID, voice mail, message waiting alert and text messaging in selected markets. The company has networks in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee.
