SMR DIRECT GAINS CELLULAR SWITCHERS

DENVER-More than half of SMR Direct’s new subscribers are switching to two-way radio from cellular and paging, the company said.

“We expected our customer base to be two-way users of antiquated conventional system and also those who were losing their service in favor of digital-based cell phone service,” according to Ian Williamson, SMR Direct’s marketing manager.

“Instead, over half of our customers switched to two-way from paging and cellular service,” he said.

SMR Direct said it provides equipment for free and charges a flat rate of $20 per month for unlimited airtime.

The company said it provides two-way service in Indiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Ohio, Iowa, Nebraska, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Virginia, North Carolina, Missouri, Arkansas, Minnesota and Pennsylvania.
