USCI Inc. named Albert Bodamer senior vice president of Ameritel Communications Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of USCI. He will be responsible for all operational aspects of Ameritel. Bodamer previously served as vice president and general manager for PriCellular Corp.’s southern New York region. He also held management positions with Frontier Corp.
Summa Four appointed Ying Ngok Lee its regional sales director for Asian operations, with responsibility for coordinating all sales and reseller activities in Asia for Summa Four’s Virtual Central Office Series of open programmable switches. Lee has 10 years of experience in sales and marketing in telecommunications in the Pacific Rim, including positions with InterVoice Inc. and Northern Telecom Asia Ltd.
Larry Whelan was named vice president of sales and marketing at Subscriber Computing Inc., where he will be responsible for developing the company’s sales and marketing efforts worldwide. Whelan most recently served as vice president of international operations for Wonderware. He also held positions as president of the Americas Asia Pacific Division of Integro Inc. and managing director of Asian operations for Modicon Inc.
Shandwick Public Affairs, an international public affairs and public relations firm, promoted Robin Baker to senior account executive. Baker is a member of Shandwick’s telecommunications and high technology team, developing and implementing marketing communications strategies for Sprint Spectrum L.P./American Personal Communications L.P., The Strategis Group and Cox California PCS. Previously she worked for Golin/Harris Communications in Los Angeles.
Michael Kalogris, president and chief executive officer of the Horizon Cellular Group, has been named to the board of directors of Systems/Link Corp. Kalogris has been with Horizon since 1991, after serving for three years as president and chief executive officer of Metrophone. Prior to that he worked for IBM Corp.
The new president and chief operating officer of Associated RT Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of The Associated Group, is Kent Sander. He also will become vice president of The Associated Group. Most recently, Sander was vice president of business operations for Ericsson Radio System Inc.’s eastern region.
Cellular Technical Services Co. Inc. named William Zollner president and chief operating officer. He has more than 14 years of senior management experience in the software industry, most recently as chief operating officer of Serena Software International, a California-based systems software provider. Prior to Serena, Zollner was president of Sterling Software Inc.’s international division. He replaces the company’s former president and COO, Bob Dahut, who left the company to pursue other opportunities.
Fred Cardina joined Siemens Business Communications Systems Inc. as its vice president of human resources. Cardina has held several human resources positions at Siemens, most recently with the Siemens/IBM Corp. joint development alliance and the Siemens/Motorola Inc. joint manufacturing company. Prior to that, Cardina was vice president of human resources at Siemens Industrial Automation in Atlanta and at Siemens Electromechanical Components in Indiana.
The new president of Comcast Corp. is David Watson, most recently senior vice president of sales and marketing. He replaces Donald Harris, who recently resigned. Watson has held several senior level positions during his 11 years with the company. Prior to joining Comcast, Watson was a sales manager for Bell Atlantic Mobile Systems.
Hongkong Telecom appointed Roy Wilson executive director of customer service. He will be directly responsible for the company’s fixed network customer services, Customer Front Office and the Customer Satisfaction Unit. He also will be responsible for improving productivity throughout Hongkong Telecom and strategic purchasing. Wilson has held positions with Ohio Bell, AT&T International and Sprint Corp.
Robert Panoff joined Excel Inc. as its vice president of marketing. The newly created position is part of Excel’s effort to broaden its sales and marketing force. Most recently, Panoff was vice president and general manager of the European group of Natural MicroSystems Corp. He also held sales and marketing management positions with Clinical Data Inc., Solvation Inc., Digital Equipment Corp. and Burroughs Corp.
The company also announced Tony Agostinelli is the new director of marketing programs and J.C. Murphy has been promoted to director of sales for the eastern region.
The newest member of NextWave Telecom Inc.’s board of directors is William Webster, former CIA director and former chief of the FBI. Since 1991, Webster has been a partner in the Washington law firm of Milbank, Hadley & McCloy. Between 1973 and 1978, Webster served as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, before joining the FBI.
John Walier will manage customer sales accounts in Glenayre Western Multiplex’s northeast region. He will focus on customers of the company’s wireless interconnect products, primarily the Lynx family of spread spectrum microwave radios. Prior to joining Glenayre, Walier spent nine years with Microwave Data Systems.
Conxus Communications named Stephen Cook chief operating officer. He has nine years of experience in the cellular industry mainly in general management, marketing and distribution. Cook most recently was president of GTE MobilNet’s mid-south region. Prior to that he held management positions at Procter & Gamble.
Andrew Viterbi, vice chairman of Qualcomm Inc., was appointed by President Clinton to the Advisory Committee on High Performance Computing and Communications, Information and Technology and the Next Generation Internet. The committee will advise the Clinton administration as it develops policies affecting high performance computing, communications and networking. Dr. Viterbi is a founder of Qualcomm and is vice chairman of its board of directors.
IFR Systems Inc. named John Bobetsky director of business development for the company’s test and measurement product line. Bobetsky has 26 years of experience in sales, marketing, customer service and engineering. Most recently he served as vice president of commercial sales and marketing for Dorne and Margolin, a New York-based manufacturer of antennas and RF products for various wireless markets.
Omnipoint Communications Inc. appointed Anne Patrick and Roger Wood technical directors for the New England region. They will be responsible for network construction in several of the company’s basic trading areas. Patrick will manage the buildout in southern New England, including Rhode Island, western Massachusetts, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard and Cape Cod. Patrick joins Omnipoint after 25 years with Pacific Bell. Wood will be in charge of the northern New England buildout including New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine. Most recently, Wood was Omnipoint’s director of business relations responsible for all strategic developments.
