CAMBRIDGE, England-During a visit to Simoco International Ltd., Ole Lauridsen, chairman of the TETRA MoU, was given a demonstration of Simoco’s Trans European Trunked Radio Access equipment.
The demonstration included mobile and portable phones in full duplex mode, the first time a company has demonstrated working portable TETRA phones, Simoco said.
“We found that in Professor Lauridsen, we had a committed advocate for the future of TETRA, not only as a (private mobile radio) service, but also extending into new radio communications services,” said Ian McKenzie, executive chairman of Simoco International. “Professor Lauridsen expressed full support for our view that applications utilizing the TETRA radio communications services would be the key to a significant growth in the whole field of closed user group radio communications systems.”
Simoco, formed in July 1996, was originally the private mobile radio division of Philips Electronics.
