CEDAR KNOLLS, N.J.-Omnipoint Communications Inc. began offering roaming in Washington, D.C./Baltimore to its New York customers. The roaming agreement is with Sprint Spectrum L.P.
Omnipoint already offers roaming in California, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Utah and parts of Canada. Customers also have the option of accessing service in Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
Omnipoint and Sprint Spectrum both use Global System for Mobile communications technology. Omnipoint said customers will pay a roaming rate of 69 cents per minute, which includes long-distance and interconnection fees.
“Travel between New York and the Washington/Baltimore region is among the heaviest in the United States, if not the world,” said George Schmitt, president of Omnipoint Communications. “The ability to roam between the two regions is critical to Omnipoint and Sprint Spectrum customers alike.”
