TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-The state of Florida along with Motorola Inc. announced 12 more counties will be added to the state’s trunked two-way radio communications network operating at 800 MHz.
The system currently is operational in Fort Lauderdale, Miami and the Florida Keys. The expansion includes Florida’s east coast ranging from Palm Beach north to Flagler and west to Orange County.
The expansion phase includes 23 Astro SmartZone simulcast transmitter/receiver sites and 10 dispatch centers, Motorola said. The state says it expects all 67 Florida counties to be on the system within five years.
Nine state agencies use the system including the Florida Highway Patrol, Marine Patrol, Game and Freshwater Fish Commission, Department of Business Regulations-Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, Department of Law Enforcement, Department of Corrections, Department of Management Services, Department of Transportation and the Department of Insurance-State Fire Marshall.
