ITA SUPPORTS MOTOROLA ON REFARMING

ARLINGTON, Va.-The Industrial Telecommunications Association Inc. filed comments with the Federal Communications Commission concerning Motorola Inc.’s petition for clarification in the refarming proceeding, the organization said.

In the petition filed in February, Motorola supported the commission’s efforts to encourage the deployment of new technologies in the refarming proceeding. However, Motorola said the new rules mandate that the authorized bandwidth should not exceed 6 kilohertz for new channels that are 6.25 kilohertz removed from an existing channel center.

Motorola said this provision will unnecessarily limit licensee flexibility to deploy two 12.5 kilohertz radios within an existing 25 kilohertz bandwidth.

ITA’s response supports Motorola’s position as long as the risk of harmful interference in such cases is minimal. ITA also endorsed Motorola’s recommendation that latitude be given to users to implement 5 kilohertz channel technology within their existing 25 kilohertz bandwidth.
