AirTouch Cellular launched Caller ID service in the Puget Sound area of western Washington. The service is available using Motorola Inc., Audiovox Corp. and Nokia Corp. narrowband Advanced Mobile Phone Service `MegaPhones,’ said the company. The service is available for $4 per month.
Northern Telecom Ltd. and Communication Intelligence Corp. agreed to jointly develop communications protocols and integrate key pen input technologies for handwriting recognition and electronic ink data processing. The companies said the resulting capabilities will expand wireless services by allowing wireless users to communicate both with voice and electronic ink messaging. Security concerns also will be addressed by the companies.
Motorola Inc.’s Land Mobile Products Sector said it will expand its facility in Plantation, Fla., to allow the company to consolidate several off-site LMPS functions as well as providing additional manufacturing and administrative space. Construction is scheduled to begin in June, and Motorola anticipates the project will be completed by third quarter 1998. The company said the expansion includes a child care and learning center and a wellness center for Motorola employees. More than 250 jobs will be added by the end of next year, the company said.
Gilbert Associates Inc.’s board of directors declared a regular quarterly dividend of 10 cents per share for the company’s class A and class B common stock. The dividend is payable June 10 to shareholders of record on May 15.
Lightbridge Inc. formed strategic alliances with Siemens Nixdorf Information Systems Inc. and Pilot Software Inc. to offer churn and channel management products. The agreement with Siemens Nixdorf allows Lightbridge’s Churn Prophet product to support Siemens Nixdorf’s NT-based systems. Lightbridge’s Channel Wizard also will support Siemens’ Unix-based Pyramid computers and its NT-based platforms. The Channel Wizard and Churn Prophet products will be marketed and sold throughout Europe by Pilot Software. The agreement extends Lightbridge’s existing relationship with Pilot Software, in which Lightbridge integrates and resells Pilot Software’s application development and data mining technology with Channel Wizard and Churn Prophet.
Celcore Inc. signed an agreement to supply its GlobalHub intelligent network platform to Rural Cellular Corp. RCC will use GlobalHub in conjunction with personal base station products to offer new services for residential customers and business users. GlobalHub functions as the Authorization and Call Routing equipment in a cellular system. It offers advanced personal mobility services and one-number access. Initial deployment of the system will be in RCC’s Minnesota markets.
