CENTURY ACQUIRES INTEREST IN PCS FIRM

MONROE, La.-Century Telephone Enterprises Inc. acquired a 19.5 percent interest in Wireless 2000 Inc. and agreed to construct and operate its personal communications services networks in Alexandria, Monroe and Lake Charles, La.

Wireless 2000 won the PCS licenses in the Federal Communications Commission’s C-block auction last year. Century expects limited services to begin on the network during the fourth quarter.

Century has conditional rights to acquire additional ownership in Wireless 2000, the companies said.
