BONN, Germany-The partnership of British Telecommunications plc and Viag AG, called E2 Mobilfunk GmbH, received its license to operate a Digital Cellular System 1800 personal communications services network in Germany.
The joint venture company received the concession in February, but the final award was delayed pending final examination, said a German press report.
E2 Mobilfunk will compete with PCS operator E-Plus Mobilfunk GmbH-owned by Veba AG, Thyssen AG and BellSouth Corp.-and Global System for Mobile communications cellular operators T-Mobil, owned by Deutsche Telekom, and Mannesmann Mobilfunk GmbH, a venture of Mannesmann AG and AirTouch International.
