BETHESDA, Md.-Sprint Spectrum L.P. teamed up with USA Today to begin providing a customized news and information service over portable digital phones.
The “Headlines to Your Handset” program, available in Sprint Spectrum’s Washington, D.C.-Baltimore market, will be offered at an introductory price of $1 per month per service selection. USA Today’s service offerings include breaking news, business and sports headlines, weather reports in selected cities and team scores. “The personalized format guarantees delivery of `news you can use’ unlike the pre-packaged formats of information services offered by some paging carriers,” said Scott Schelle, chief executive officer of Sprint Spectrum. “Instead of an endless stream of information, you personalize the news you want.”
