GERMANTOWN, Md.-Hughes Network Systems Inc. recently signed contracts with PT Ratelindo, an Indonesian telecom operator, to expand its fixed wireless telephone network in Jakarta.
According to HNS, Ratelindo plans to connect more than 150,000 subscribers by the end of the year. The company currently is delivering the first 100,000 single subscriber unit wireless telephone terminals to Ratelindo.
The digital wireless local loop network is meant to provide a “speedy and economical” alternative to wireline telephone systems, as residents there have been waiting years for a telephone line.
