SYDNEY, Australia-Telstra, an Australian telecom company, announced it selected Northern Telecom Inc. as its preferred digital fixed wireless access network infrastructure equipment and services provider, with plans to deploy 350 of its base stations over the next three years.
The carrier already has begun commercial rollout of Nortel’s Proximity fixed wireless access solution, under a multimillion dollar supply agreement with Nortel. The decision to further commit to Nortel came after successful trials in rural areas and positive customer feedback, Telstra said.
Nortel’s Proximity family uses digital radio technology to create links to the public switched telephone network.
