STANDARD TELECOM LICENSES CDMA

SANTA CLARA, Calif.-Standard Telecom Inc., manufacturer of the Nixxo brand of pagers, and Qualcomm Inc. have signed a license agreement allowing Standard Telecom to use Code Division Multiple Access technology.

Standard Telecom said it plans to develop CDMA personal communications services handsets, which it will introduce into the worldwide market by the third quarter 1998. Standard Telecom already has developed a handset using Global System for Mobile communications technology.

Standard Telecom said it plans to expand its share in the PCS market around the world, including the United States. The company offers the Nixxo line of pagers in the United States.
