ADC AND INTERWAVE TO SELL MICROCELLULAR SYSTEMS IN CHINA

SAN DIEGO-ADC Wireless Systems and interWave Communications International Ltd., which provides digital microcellular network systems worldwide, announced they have reached an exclusive agreement to sell microcellular systems in China, strengthening their existing strategic agreement.

“We are confident that the combination of our microcell technology and ADC’s marketing, sales and distribution capabilities will lead directly to broad deployment of our systems,” said Doug Jacobs, senior vice president and chief operating officer of interWave.

As part of the agreement, ADC will acquire the assets and employees of interWave’s offices in Beijing. The integration of the interWave local technical resources in China with the ADC sales and marketing presence in Beijing will allow for complete support of Global System for Mobile communications operators in China, added the companies.

The relationship with interWave is a key component of ADC’s strategic positioning as a systems provider of complete wireless access and transport solutions. This arrangement was made in conjunction with successful completions of two trials in Chin, one with Beijing Unicom for deployment of microcellular systems in subways and the second with the Shanghai Post and Telecommunications Authority for in-building applications.
