MT. OLIVE, N.J.-Lucent Technologies Inc. said it completed its prototype base station that will be used by NTT DoCoMo of Japan in experiments on a wideband Code Division Multiple Access system for third-generation mobile communications systems.
The W-CDMA system, proposed by NTT DoCoMo, is part of a global effort to improve digital wireless technologies to handle the higher data rate requirements of multimedia service applications, including universal roaming, full-motion video transmission and a wide array of Internet services.
The Lucent prototype will undergo further testing at DoCoMo’s facility in Yokosuka Research Park, outside of Tokyo.
